  • A breezy, beachy tree-house where all are welcome for casual bites and cool drinks…

On your way to Echo Beach, look out for the rustic wooden shack with the hot pink walls opposite Deus. Park the bike/ car/ pram downstairs and climb up the steep wooden staircase, perhaps stepping over a couple of snoozing dogs while you’re at it, and you’ll arrive at the best place to sit in Betelnut.  It’s like you’re in a big tree-house (albeit one filled with surfer dudes, travelling hipsters and local Canggu expats) with a cool view overlooking the ricefields and a gentle breeze.  Grab a booth, a comfy couch or squeeze in at the communal table.

The vibe here is earthy, happy, colourful, beachie, casual and relaxed, the foodie fare is organic, healthy, tasty and clearly made with love, and all are made welcome… adults, kids, locals, tourists, sandy feet, even dogs.

The little ones can order from a special kids menu which includes mini serves of Indonesian nasi and mie dishes, quesadillas and cheeseburgers.

For brekkie and brunch us bigger kids can welcome the day with classic egg dishes plus all the extras, healthy granola, or a beautiful tropical Betel Bowl.  For lunch there are burgers, salads, wraps, mexican burritos and more.  Refreshing drinks include colourful juices, smoothies, coolers, frappes, kopi, tea, wheatgrass shots, chai, or an icy cold Bintang for Dad.

Sipping on fresh young coconuts and tropical juices, and munching on big bowls of edamame is a favourite family snack here.

There is always an amazing selection of sweet treats on offer including chocolate brownies served with ice cream, their famous variations of cheesecake (Bounty, Oreo, Mixed Berry, Gypsy, Banofee, the list goes on!), lots of gluten free options and the stunning hot pink and chocolate brown Betel cake. So make sure you leave room for a treat after lunch, or make a pitstop here purely to indulge in some baked goodies for morning or afternoon tea.

With no grassy lawn area, it might not be the best spot for energetic toddlers on the move, or babes in prams, but for our family it makes for a fun and casual spot for a bite to eat, with the exciting climb up the staircase still a novelty for the little ones.

For non stair climbers, there is an enclosed air-conditioned area downstairs.

    Takeaway and local delivery available.

Open Tuesday to Sunday – 7am to 10pm for breakfast, lunch and dinner
